Hog Lagoon Treatment

  • Reduces ammonia by 85% to 90% from the lagoon and 50% in house.
  • Eliminates offensive odors by removing hydrogen sulfide.
  • Removes solids from lagoon and pit bottom. Solids that normally accumulate in the bottom of the lagoon and in the pipes are eaten and digested by live microbes.
  • Doubles pump life or more between overhauls.
  • Cleans pipes and pump. Digests Hog lagoon treatment removes ammonia sulphide crystals. Acid treatment not necessary.
  • Cost per year is very economical and competitive.
  • Save dollars! Recharge pits with lagoon water saving expensive pump outs and redistributes existing microbes.
  • Removes flies’ breeding areas.
  • Reduces odors for field application.
  • 100% ORGANIC MICROBIAL
  • EFFECTIVE****EFFECTIVE**“EFFECTIVE

HOG LAGOON MAINTENANCE

AQ-4 is more than a biological treatment. AQ~4 is a hog lagoon treatment that consists of stimulators to cause rapid reproduction of native and the selective microbes contained in the blend. Enzymes are added to aid in break down and digestion of solids by live microbes, which in tum produce more enzymes.
Hog lagoons can be costly headaches. As you well know, their odors are a community problem. Pressure is forcing regulatory agencies to step in and impose regulations that will be even more costly. If growers take action now to maintain a good healthy, odor free system, it will not only slow regulatory action, but also help you and the pigs you are raising. We have four basic problems involved with a lagoon: Odors, Pump Maintenance, Solids and Disease.

Odors

Odors are not only a problem for the surrounding community, but a hazard to you and the pigs especially during the winter when ventilation through the house is reduced. The odor that affects neighbors is hydrogen sulfide, which is produced by the decaying solids. A very small amount of hydrogen sulfide in the air (ppm) will stink up a large area. The only way to prevent this condition is to treat with a product that digests the solids before they decay. Ammonia affects the respiratory system of swine and you in the house. Ammonia dissipates into the air very rapidly and is not detectable in small quantities (ppm).

Pump Maintenance

A well balanced living lagoon free of chemicals is the most effective, trouble free, and economical to maintain. Pumps and piping will accumulate crystals of ammonia sulfides causing pump repairs and clogged pipes. AQ-4 digests these crystals and allows the ammonia to gasify into the atmosphere as clean ammonia which is not offensive to neighbors. You can expect to double your time between pump repairs saving enough to pay for a AQ-4 recharge. This gives you virtually free odor control. We recommend no acid treatment.
Solids will build up in the lagoon creating a need for expensive pump outs and disposal. Even the so called mature reddish to reddish brown lagoons fill up with solid waste. They are limited on the species of microbes and are not capable of maintaining control of odors or digesting the solids as is necessary for today’s high production levels.

Disease

Diseases in the lagoon are something you can not see, feel or smell, yet they are there. The lagoon is a perfect breeding ground for diseases (Coli-form, E-coli). It will only take one case of this coliform getting into ground water & you will see regulators
forcing several test wells with frequent samples tested at your expense. We eliminate the food source for their development.Treated lagoon water should be used to fill pits and flush houses. The treated water contains microbes to begin work on excretions immediately upon release from the animal. New lagoons should be filled 2/3 with water before releasing the first pit. This prevents overloading the lagoon and provides treated water back to the houses.

Treatment
It is recommended to allow the affluent to fall from the drain pips into the lagoon to provide some aeration. The odors have been removed. The timely operation of recharging pits with treated water each week is important for full control. Shortly after the initial treatment, the floor and walls of the pits will drain clean requiring little or no wash down. Untreated lagoons allow manure to build up on the bottom and sides of the pits releasing a tremendous amount of foul odors when exposed during drainage. This exposure also offers a perfect place for flies to lay eggs.

Easy Lagoon Treatment Controls Odors,  Solids and Pump Maintenance with ONE EASY application.

LAGOONS: 1 pound of AQ-4 per acre foot for the initial hog lagoon treatment. Other computations are: per every 325,000 gallons or 43,500 cubic feet. An additional 2 ounces per pit should be added at the same time. Once treated, pit bottoms will clean out much better with each time drained.
Since solids have accumulated on the lagoon bottom, most growers will experience considerable bubbling action in a few days which is created by the microbes digesting the solids and releasing carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide will collect under layers of solids raising them to the surface. This shows the microbes are working and will disappear as the microbes continue to eat the solids.
Recharge in 4 to 6 months for finishing houses and 6 to 8 months for sow operations with 75% of the initial dosage. The earlier time will be necessary in some operation due to odors.
TWO LAGOONS: if two lagoons are available direct the waste from all houses into one lagoon and create a cross feed into the second lagoon. Initially treat each lagoon with the recommended l pound per  acre foot. The microbes will keep solids digested and prevent an excessive build up. This 2 lagoon system will provide a better quality of water for flushing houses and reduce  exposure of the swine to far less diseases.
If the lagoons are full of solids, initial hog lagoon treatment should be increased to 2 lbs per acre foot to reduce the solids rapidly.
