How Does PFC -1 Work?
PFC-1 probiotic microbes constitute a dietary supplement that increases the population of beneficial organisms that are needed in the intestinal tract for poultry to process food properly. These organisms fight off bad bacteria that pass through the digestive system and destroy them before they have a chance to establish themselves in the intestinal tract.
When animals are stressed, the pH rises in the small intestine. This higher pH level allows harmful bacteria to develop and causes deterioration of the mucus lining of the intestine and villi which take nutrients from the food. Once the villi are injured or
destroyed they do not regenerate. The nutrients from the food are not absorbed efficiently allowing lower feed conversion and lower weight.
PFC-1 given on a regular basis populates the intestines with the beneficial organisms that fight off the harmful bacteria that causes disease. In this way, weight is increased and disease is reduced in the herd.
PFC-1 may be used as a substitute for or in conjunction with antibiotics. As a substitute for antibiotics, PFC-1 fed birds suffer less disease and show more weight gain than those given antibiotics only. When used in conjunction with antibiotics, PFC-1
should be given for the the first one to two weeks after antibiotics are administered. This is because the antibiotics eliminate both the beneficial and harmful bacteria from the intestines. Use of PFC-1 after administering antibiotics repopulates the intestines with beneficial the beneficial bacteria only.
PFC-1 can also be used on breeders to improve their health. The number of fertile eggs produced over the lay cycle is substantially increased. The eggs produced are higher in fertility and result in more hatches.
How to Use PFC 1
PFC-1should be sprayed on the floor and feed just prior to placing new birds. This will ensure that the first organisms they are exposed to are beneficial. The first few days for young birds is the best opportunity to influence how they will grow out. Younger animals that become sick are more greatly affected and show poorest at market time.

For Water Treatment
Per house of approximately 25 000 chickens or 6000 turkeys, dissolve l ounce of PFC-1 into in gallon of water to be consumed by birds in 6 to 8 hours and feed through the medicator as soon as possible alter the arrival of the birds. Repeat in 3 days.
Apply l ounce per week in the same manner for weeks 2 and 3.
Week 4 apply 4 ounces in 5 gallons of water through the medicator.
Week 5 through shipment apply 1 ounce per week
Historically, in turkeys and chickens, the major problems occur during week 6 or 7. Week 11 is the crucial week for turkeys. Since PFC-1 is a preventive measure, not a cure, a booster is required ahead of time.
Week 10 for turkeys; apply 4 ounces in 5 gallons of water through the medicator.
Many growers feel they benefit by applying 1/2 the dosage twice a week
PFC-1 may be sprayed on feed troughs at the same rates of water usage.
For Litters
PFC-1 should be used on the litter for the first two flocks in the beginning and one tune after each clean out.
Directions: Mix 1/2 pound of PFC-1 with sufficient water to cover 20 000 square feet of floor space and a liberal application to feeders and water containers. If disinfectant has been added to floor, wait two weeks before applying PFC-1. PFC-1 can be applied to the litter any time before the arrival of new birds. This gives the microbes time to multiply and begin working.
Caution: Clean equipment of any pesticides before adding PFC-1. All material should be used within 24 hours after after being mixed. A reduction in copper and chlorine will be beneficial. Store at room temperature A heaping tablespoon equals l ounce of material.
